Paper Tigers Screening: Understanding Trauma Presenter: Niagia Williams, Program Coordinator Prevent Child Abuse Delaware
Session #1-3 : 8:40am-12:00pm
This workshop will present trauma information in a different way. Paper Tigers, a documentary, depicts the dramatic transformation in troubled teens when school staff incorporate the findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences study into their education and support services. The documentary shows firsthand how trauma impacts children and demonstrates how one school became trauma-informed and made dramatic changes in their approach to educating children. After three years of using this new approach, the results were dramatic; the number of altercations had decreased by 75% and the graduation rate had increased five-fold. This workshop will include a screening of Paper Tigers and a reflection session following the film.

One of Beau’s favorite things to do as Attorney General was to go in to Delaware’s schools and talk to kids about online safety. Over the course of 8 years, Beau spoke in scores of schools, to over 25,000 students. The Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children proudly continues his work. By partnering with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Foundation is able to bring NCMEC’s NetSmartz® Workshop suite of programs in to Delaware’s elementary, middle and high school’s. NetSmartz® Workshop covers everything Beau thought was important kids understand: good digital citizenship, online safety, and the dangers of cyber bullying. With presentations for elementary, middle and high schoolers, the Foundation can address these issues with age appropriate videos, games, lessons and tip sheets.
